Are wood countertops for you?
Do you have the ability and desire to re-apply oil & stain to ensure wood tops are fully protected? Do you have a construction style preference (Edge Grain, Plan/Flat Grain, End Grain)? What finish do you prefer (Mineral Oil, Tung Oil, Lacquer, Stain & Lacquer, Distressed)? Are you comfortable with cleaning your countertop with wood safe products?
The Pros:
Wood countertops are some of the most durable and forgiving counter surfaces available. Besides having a lot of character, wood countertops are food safe. And every piece is finished with oil & lacquer to protect against damaging water and stains. No piece of wood is the same, which means no countertop is the same. Each grain represents your countertop’s fingerprint that is yours and yours alone.
The Cons:
Depending on how often you use your countertop, you’ll have to re-oil it to ensure it is protected against moisture, sometimes 2 to 3 times per year. You will also need clean it with wood safe products. We recommend cleaning with mild, aroma-free detergent and disinfect with a vinegar/water solution. You should never let water stand on your countertop.
